Lighthouse Youth Center

Needed Adult Volunteers to help with our Tutoring Program.

Martin County Youth for Christ provides tutoring for young people ages 11-18 who are struggling academically. We work alongside churches, schools, and organizations to reach youth through mentoring and tutoring, and help students improve academically.

Each tutor works with an assigned student once or twice a week from October 1st through May 15th at the Lighthouse Youth Center in Fairmont. Students and tutors meet on Tuesday's and Thursday's from 3:15 - 5:30 pm or by appointment to provide assistance with homework, and one-to-one help in subjects they are struggling in. A volunteer coordinator is on site for each tutoring session. Each volunteer tutor completes an orientation session which provides an overview of the tutoring process, and ways to develop a relationship with their student. All volunteers must submit to a background check.
